Who we are
Our history, vision, mission, objectives and how the Society is governed.
History
SFMB was founded by a group of committed Family Physicians and General Practitioners who saw a clear need: a unified professional body to promote and strengthen Family Medicine in Bangladesh. As the country's healthcare needs keep evolving, the founders wanted a Society that could lead on education, research, advocacy, professional development, and collaboration — one that would help establish Family Medicine as the cornerstone of primary healthcare.
SFMB is a professional, academic, non-profit, and non-political organization, committed to improving the health and well-being of the people of Bangladesh through excellence in Family Medicine.

Priorities include expanding membership across Bangladesh and among Bangladeshi physicians abroad; establishing the College of Family Medicine Bangladesh; running regular national conferences and CME/CPD programmes; building research networks for multicentre primary care research; publishing newsletters, journals, and clinical guidelines; forming partnerships with government agencies, universities, hospitals, and bodies like WONCA; advocating for Family Medicine's integration into the national healthcare system; and supporting community-based initiatives around prevention, early diagnosis, and continuity of care.
Our Commitment
SFMB is more than a professional association — it's a community of physicians committed to advancing Family Medicine and strengthening primary healthcare in Bangladesh. Through education, research, advocacy, collaboration, and service, we're working to improve the health of individuals, families, and communities, while helping shape the future of healthcare in our nation.
